- The most popular way to acheive top search engine rankings is by so called
"off page" optimization which is exchanging links with other webmasters.
Links to your website increase your Google Page Rank and popularity of your
internet business site. There are certain criteria and tips that you should use
while exchanging links with other sites.
#1 - Always make sure that the site you want to link to is indexed with
Google. You can check that by typing their domain name(www.example.com) into
Google search box. If the site shows in their index then you should check
their Page Rank. You could use Google toolbar
for free. If the site doesn't exist in their index then I would suggest not to link, unless
you trust the owner of the site, or it's an authority website.
#2 - Search engines weight links! For example, if you receive a link from a site
that has been online for about 10 years and has Google Page Rank 4, it will be a lot more
valuable than a link from a PR5 or even a PR6 site that has been online for only 5 months.
#3 - Link from a webpage with only 5 outband links is more valuable than a link from the same
webpage with 10 outband links. Pay attention to number of links on the webpage!
#4 - The higher Google Page Rank of a website linking to you the better popularity of your site and greater Page Rank of your
website as well.
#5 - Links from sites with different IPs are more valuable than links from different websites sharing
the same IP. NEVER crosslink your own websites! Read Google Webmaster Guide.
#6 - Link from high traffic website sometimes is more beneficial than a link from high PR website without any traffic.
#7 - Use Anchor text in your links! For example, if you sell website templates you would hyperlink the phrase "website templates" to your main website.
#8 - Exchange links with relevant websites. Search engines seem to give better value to a link that is on the
webpage with similar topic.
